You have heard me say a billion times before the importance of proper nutrition with the foods you eat to lose weight. But, there is one thing in regards to proper nutrition I haven't touched on....the high cost of foods these days and how to shop for them.
You can go out to the market or a dollar store, etc., and buy a frozen burrito for $1. You can also go to the aforementioned stores and buy the $1-$3 pack of cookies, bag of chips, and even a bottle of cooking oil! Then, you can go to fast food restaurants and get a TON of different meals all under $6!
But, what about healthy food? A pack of chicken breast is not cheap! The cost of fruit is going up. You're almost at the point of saying, "what's the sense of buying foods to eat to lose weight, if it's going to make me broke?"
Whoa!! Don't ever put saving money before your health! There are ways to compromise to make sure you get and stay healthy, and not end up spending a fortune.
There are plenty of discount "bulk" food stores out here today. Some may be in your neighborhood, and there are even some online. These are the places you should buy your healthy meats from. You can buy a large pack of frozen chicken breast that can last you and your family for days, and from those stores, it usually costs around $10-$12 for a huge pack/box. You buy the chicken, grill or bake all of it, put them in the freezer, and take out what you need during the week! This could save you $10-$20 total compared to buying the chicken breast at the market!
When it comes to foods to eat to lose weight, fruits and veggies are at the top of the list. However, they could get a little expensive.....if you don't know how to shop for them.
Dealing with fruits and veggies, if you buy particular fruits and veggies in season, they'll be more affordable. Also, when you buy fruits and veggies, make sure you diversify greatly with what you buy, but, do not get too much of each. For example, get just 3 apples, 3 oranges, 3 peaches, etc. This is so that you kill two birds with one stone. For one, you won't end up spending too much since you're not buying those pre-made bags, and for two, you won't end up wasting food. How many times have you bought a ton of a particular fruit, and it ended up going bad because it lasted for so long? Also, try to shop at actual fruit markets instead of the shopping market. The fruits and veggies are not only more inexpensive, their also more fresher.
Bottled water is getting ridiculous nowadays with how much they cost. Simple solution, buy a water filter for your faucet or a filtration pitcher such as a Brita or Pur filtration system. This will save you a ton of money over the long run compared to buying bottled water.
Those are some simple tips to help you cope with rising costs of foods to eat to lose weight. If you have any other ways on how to save money when shopping for foods to eat to lose weight, feel free to share your suggestions by commenting to this post!

Great tips! All too often people tell me they just 'can't afford to eat healthy'. The reality is that you can't afford to NOT eat healthy!
Frozen veggies are a favorite of mine. Quick and convenient, and one of the few foods that still taste good when mircrowaved. Keep your freezer stocked full of frozen veggies. Green peas, lima beans, mixed veggies, edamame mixes, and acorn squash are staples. Pull out one or two, serve with some lean protein (turkey breast, chicken breast, white fish) and you have a great healthy dinner that supports weight loss \ management efforts.
Excellent advice "fat into the fire". I totally forgot to add frozen veggies. Their affordable, quick, and delicious!
These are really great suggestions and I totally agree on the fruits and veggies. I buy frozen fruit and veggies as well when I have to.
