When I first began my weight loss efforts, taking supplements to lose weight and build muscle were the first thing that popped in my head.

This is obviously not a good way of thinking. The first thing that should pop into anyone's head when trying to lose weight and burn fat is proper nutrition and the other basic principles of a healthy lifestyle.

However, there are a few supplements to lose weight that I have taken over the years and still do that are very effective in helping you lose weight and burn fat.

Before I talk about what supplements to lose weight that I take, I just want to make clear that you should not take supplements for their given name.....supplements. Take supplements as something additional to making sure you have proper nutrition through out the day.

For one, I recommend the multivitamin. Taking a multivitamin is an excellent way to guarantee that you are getting your daily required intake of vitamins and minerals. There are many types of multivitamins on the market today. Not all are good. Make sure that whatever you are interested in taking, you get a review on it first, and that it contains ALL of the important vitamins and minerals you need on a daily basis.

One of the other supplements I take is fish oil. I highly recommend this supplement to lose weight and burn fat. Fish oil has several important benefits. One of the greatest aspects of fish oil is it's content of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, which are great for your cardiovascular health.

Another supplement to lose weight and burn fat that I take is green tea extract.

Green tea extract is a wonderful supplement to take for those with fat burning and weight loss goals in mind. Green tea extract helps with thermogenesis and the metabolism of fat. Besides it's weight loss and fat burning benefits, it also has several other health benefits such as helping to fight against cancer, heart disease, and liver failure.

Those are the supplements I take on a daily basis, and also what has helped me over the course of a year to lose over 50 pounds and gain lean muscle. Just remember the core principles of a healthy lifestyle is what you need to put on the top of your list of priorities.....then look into adding a couple of safe supplements to your diet.

Speaking of safe supplements to lose weight and burn fat, AVOID DANGEROUS SUPPLEMENTS!

I'm not calling out any brands, but just make sure you stay away from supplements that makes crazy claims such as rapid weight loss, etc. These supplements are known for causing serious health conditions along with yo-yo weight loss (you'll lose weight and then gain it back!).

Do your research guys. There are many reviews and research out here on supplements and what to avoid.

Just remember, supplements to lose weight and burn fat are not magical pills. You must implement dieting, exercise, drinking plenty of water daily, and getting plenty of sleep every night to see weight loss and fat burning success.

Have a safe and healthy day!

Great tips! It cannot be stressed enough that a healthy lifestyle with exercise is the most important aspect to losing fat.

I agree with you, some basic supplements are very good like the ones you mentioned.

However, there are no magic fat burners. Step 1: Start eating healthy and get regular with exercise.

Well said, a good thought out post.

When I read the title, I thought, "No, not another person proclaiming diet pills."

For some reason diet pills and supplements have crossed over in my thinking - I'm not sure whether this is because the drug manufacturers have tried to meld the two together, when really they are not.

Like you I too take a multi-vitamin, and a Omega 3 supplement. I occasionally drink green tea, but prefer water these days.

    Keep up the good work.

You show much wisdom and balance in this post. Obviously, you are a "doer" and not just a "talker." The secret to fat loss is not vitamins. It is not exercise and it is not what you eat. It is ALL THREE. Miss one of these and your efforts will be significantly slowed down.

As far as supplements go, I find that the B vitamins and the mineral Chromium help to convert blood glucose into energy instead of storing it as fat.

The problem is that we end up taking a dozen different supplements that may not even contain half of what they claim on the label. What multivitamin should I buy? Instead of buying a dozen different pills, is there a multi that contains green tea extract and many of the other pills I take that are combined in one product? Does it have all I need and is it in the proper balance?

I read the Comparative Guide To Nutritional Supplements where they rated the effectiveness of over 1500 multivitamins. I thought the vitamin I was taking was superior to anything out in the market. To my dismay, I found that it was lower than average. The good news was that there were plenty of superior vitamins to choose from and I subsequently upgraded and felt the difference in a week or so. When you need to lose fat and avoid heart disease, you need to exercise, eat right and make better vitamin choices.
