If you're like me, your life is busy the minute your eyes open up in the morning!
Although my day may be busy, I put a top priority on making sure I get myself a nutritious breakfast before my day is rolling full speed ahead.
Skipping breakfast is a surefire way to damper your weight loss efforts.
When you skip breakfast, this sends starvation signals to your metabolism causing it to slow down. This is because you haven't ate for an extended period of time from when you went to bed the night before. A slow metabolism will store calories in your body as a way of "protecting" you. Those calories will then turn to fat!
But my mornings are way too busy to stop and eat breakfast, so what should I do?
Sure you can't have big Sunday like breakfast's everyday, but you still need to eat a good nutrient dense meal for all day energy and if you want to have maximum weight loss.
Two of the most important nutritional sources you need first thing in the morning to get your body recharged for the day are fiber and protein.
Here is a quick list of foods rich in fiber, protein, plus other important nutrients that you can mix and match together for a quick healthy breakfast:
- An apple
- Handful of almonds
- A banana
- A cup of yogurt
- Whole grain bagel (add peanut butter for added nutritional value and flavor)
- Sliced Veggies (yes, you can eat veggies for breakfast!)
- Protein shake (add fruit for more nutritional value, flavor, and to fill you)
- Bran muffin
- Whole grain waffles (I recommend you make your own homemade whole grain waffles instead of buying the frozen one's at the store. Just make a good amount on the weekend, freeze them, and then pop in the toaster during the week.)
- Sliced cantaloupe or melon
- Whole grain toast with honey
- Cottage cheese
