1. Start Slow - In the beginning of your weight loss/fat loss journey, take it one step at a time. Getting started with a diet/exercise plan can be exciting.....for some.....lol, but jumping into your plan full speed ahead could cause you discouragement quite easily. I know you want to get those pounds and inches off quickly, but hopping on the treadmill and putting it at a speed of 6.0 and an incline of 15.0 when you haven't worked out for quite some time is a recipe for disaster! The same thing goes for dieting. Never, never, never try to crash diet and severely reduce your calories! Reducing your calories too much will cause a mountain of issues including slowing down your metabolism to a crawl!
2. Make An Easy Schedule - If you have a busy lifestyle, make a time when you can workout for at least 30 minutes...and make sure you're able to stick to that schedule. If you even "think" you may not be able to fit in an exercise session at a particular time, then do not schedule your session for that time of the day.
3. Never Deprive Yourself - When dieting, it's always a good idea to have a little "bad food" once in awhile. Besides, getting the healthy fats (monounsaturated such as nuts, olive oil, etc.) can help with several other health issues, in particular, heart health. Now I'm not saying to go ahead and eat a lot of high fat foods, just simply get a nice portion of healthy fats daily.
4. Low Carb Dieting - If you want to be miserable, have low energy, and suffer from food cravings while dieting, then go right ahead on one of those ever-so-popular low carb diets! If you want to truly lose weight and have your body successfully metabolize fat, you have to have a moderate amount of carbs daily (more so the good carbs.....FIBER). The only time you should ever have simple carbs (SUGAR) is immediately after you workout. Having simple carbs after you workout will help process protein to your muscles and restore energy levels. I recommend you have a SMALL sports drink (gatorade, etc.). Fiber is absolutely essential for weight loss, fat loss, and definitely overall health (especially your digestive system).
5. Low Calorie Dieting - Going on a low calorie diet will slow down your metabolism. Besides that, you'll always be hungry and will be more susceptible to giving up (I seriously hate saying those two words) with your weight loss goals.

7. Inconsistency - A surefire way to guarantee you'll never see success is to be inconsistent with your dieting and exercising efforts.
